Brooks appeared in court Friday. His status as a University of Houston student was confirmed during the hearing.

ABC13 reported that Brooks is a member of the University of Houston football team. The report said he is not part of the team’s travel squad because of his position on the team’s depth chart.

Court Conditions and Bond

A judge ordered Brooks not to contact the alleged victim.

His bond in the Sept. 17 case was set at $15,000.

Court records also show that Brooks faces a separate misdemeanor criminal mischief charge connected to an August incident.

Separate August Criminal Mischief Case

Police responded to a family dispute call on Aug. 9, according to court records.

The records state that an argument between Brooks and a woman later resulted in the handle of the woman’s apartment door being broken. The reported damage was estimated at between $100 and $750.

The woman in the August case is a different person from the alleged victim in the Sept. 17 assault case.

According to court records, the woman in the August case told police that she and Brooks had been in a relationship and that she had become pregnant as a result of that relationship.

Brooks was not arrested in connection with the August incident until this week. His bond in that case was set at $100.

Current Status

Court records show that Brooks posted bond Friday.

He is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 21.

Brooks is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
