While officers were heading to the scene, police received an update saying the woman had returned and shot the man again. Witnesses later reported hearing several gunshots, while paramedics were seen treating a man who appeared to be in serious pain.

Police said officers later encountered the woman on a sidewalk outside the apartment complex. Officers gave her verbal commands, but HPD said she did not comply. Three officers then fired their weapons several times, saying they feared for their safety.

Both the man and woman were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. HPD has not released their identities, and police said the relationship between them has not been confirmed. The department said body-worn camera footage from the officers will be released within 30 days as the investigation continues.

Witnesses Describe the Scene

Williams also said he saw paramedics treating a man who appeared to be in significant pain. He described seeing officers fire at the woman after they confronted her outside the complex.

Williams said the shooting was difficult to watch and that he had never seen police shoot someone like that in person.
