Downdetector reports started increasing around 9:45 a.m. EDT and reached their highest point at about 10:41 a.m. By 11:15 a.m. EDT, more than 200,000 outage reports had been recorded worldwide, including more than 100,000 from the U.S.
Reports came from 173 countries, with about 46% coming from the United States. The reports included users across every major mobile and home broadband provider in the country.
Spotify said it was aware of the problems and was checking the issue. The company has not explained what caused the outage.
How the Outage Unfolded
The number of Spotify outage reports rose quickly after 9:45 a.m. EDT on Tuesday. Users reported problems with the app, music searches and account logins as the service disruption grew.
The outage reached its peak at about 10:41 a.m. EDT, when Downdetector recorded roughly 3,000 reports per minute. Downdetector normally sees about two reports per minute on a regular day.
By 11:15 a.m. EDT, Downdetector had received more than 200,000 reports worldwide. More than 100,000 of those reports came from users in the United States.
Most reports involved Spotify’s app, accounting for about 58% of reports at 11:15 a.m. EDT. Another 21% involved problems streaming audio.
The number of reports began to fall after the peak, reaching about 2,300 per minute roughly an hour later. Spotify continued to check the issue, while the exact cause of the service disruption remained unclear.
