Spencer Shrader is an American football placekicker for the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL. Born in Westfield, Indiana, Shrader began his college career at South Florida before transferring to Notre Dame for the 2023 season.

History of Spencer Shrader
Early Life
Spencer Shrader was born on May 19, 1999, in Westfield, Indiana. He later grew up in Lithia, Florida, where he attended Newsome High School.
At Newsome, Shrader played three sports: football, soccer and tennis. He continued with football after high school and joined the University of South Florida as a kicker.
After high school, Shrader chose to walk on at the University of South Florida. He joined the South Florida Bulls as a kicker and started his college career without being a highly recruited player.
College Career
Shrader played for South Florida from 2019 through 2022. He improved his numbers over his four seasons with the Bulls.
In 2019, his first college season, he made all 12 of his extra-point attempts and connected on four of nine field-goal attempts. He followed that with a 2020 season in which he made four of six field goals and 11 of 12 extra points.
His strongest season at South Florida came in 2021. Shrader made 11 of 13 field-goal attempts and all 35 of his extra points. His performance earned him a spot as a Lou Groza Award semifinalist.
In 2022, he made nine of 13 field goals and all 37 extra-point attempts. After the season, Shrader entered the NCAA transfer portal and moved to Notre Dame.
At Notre Dame, Shrader played his final college season in 2023. He made 15 of 22 field-goal attempts and 61 of 62 extra points. His longest kick was 54 yards.
That 54-yard field goal came against NC State in Week 3 and set a Notre Dame school record at the time. He finished the 2023 season with Notre Dame and then entered the NFL Draft.
Professional Career
Shrader entered the 2024 NFL Draft but was not selected. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2024.
After being waived by the Colts in August, he returned to the team’s practice squad. He was later elevated to the active roster for the Colts’ Week 1 game against the Houston Texans after an injury to Matt Gay.
Shrader made all three of his extra-point attempts in that game. The Colts lost 29-27, but the game marked Shrader’s first NFL regular-season appearance.
He was released by Indianapolis in October 2024 before returning briefly to the team. Later that month, he joined the New York Jets practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster in November and made his Jets debut against the Arizona Cardinals, converting both of his field-goal attempts.
Shrader’s 2024 season then took another turn when the Kansas City Chiefs signed him off the Jets’ practice squad on November 14. The move came after an injury to Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker.
With Kansas City, Shrader produced one of the biggest moments of his early NFL career. On November 24, 2024, he made a game-winning field goal as time expired against the Carolina Panthers, giving the Chiefs a 30-27 win.
He was placed on injured reserve in December 2024.
2025 Season with the Colts
Shrader spent the 2024 season with the Colts, Jets and Chiefs before returning to Indianapolis in 2025.
In Week 2 against the Denver Broncos, Shrader made all five of his field-goal attempts, including a 45-yard game-winning kick. The Colts won the game 29-28.
His 2025 season was later cut short by a right knee injury suffered during the Colts’ Week 5 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The injury was diagnosed as a torn ACL and MCL, ending his season.
